Frequently Asked Questions
These answers provide general information and do not replace an individualized medical evaluation. Treatment eligibility, prescribing decisions, dosing, and treatment recommendationsare determined by the treating physician.
What services does Klearmind provide?
Klearmind provides physician-directed medical services for eligible California adults, including: in-clinic IV ketamine; oral ketamine-assisted psychotherapy completed at participating therapists' offices; physician-directed at-home oral ketamine; IV hydration and wellness infusions; and selected mobile IV wellness services.
What is the complimentary informational call?
The complimentary 15-minute informational call allows prospective patients to ask general questions and learn about Klearmind's programs. It is not a medical evaluation. No diagnosis, treatment decision, or prescription is provided during this call.
Are services available outside California?
No. Klearmind's medical services and prescribing programs are available to eligible patients located in California.
Does scheduling an evaluation guarantee treatment?
No. An evaluation does not guarantee treatment, a prescription, or enrollment in a particular program. The physician determines medical appropriateness after reviewing the patient's health history, medications, potential contraindications, treatment goals, and relevant risks.
What is ketamine?
Ketamine is an FDA-approved anesthetic that has been used in medical settings for decades. Ketamine may also be prescribed or administered off-label for certain psychiatric and pain conditions. "Off-label" means the medication is being used for a condition or in a manner that has not been specifically approved by the FDA.
Does Klearmind offer intramuscular ketamine?
No. Klearmind does not offer intramuscular ketamine.
Does Klearmind offer nasal ketamine or Spravato?
No. Klearmind does not offer nasal ketamine or Spravato. Spravato is an FDA-approved intranasal esketamine product and is different from racemic ketamine.
Where is oral ketamine sent?
When prescribed, compounded oral ketamine is sent by the dispensing pharmacy to the patient's verified California address. Klearmind does not ship or dispense the medication.
Is ketamine FDA-approved for depression, anxiety, PTSD, or chronic pain?
No. Ketamine is not FDA-approved for the treatment of psychiatric disorders or chronic pain. A physician may determine that off-label treatment is medically appropriate for an individual patient after evaluating the potential benefits, risks, and alternatives.
What ketamine programs does Klearmind offer?
Klearmind offers three distinct programs: (1) in-clinic IV ketamine; (2) oral ketamine-assisted psychotherapy at a participating therapist's office; (3) physician-directed at-home oral ketamine.
Is compounded oral ketamine FDA-approved?
No. Compounded oral ketamine is not FDA-approved. The FDA does not review compounded medications for safety, effectiveness, or quality before they are marketed.
What happens before IV ketamine treatment?
A Klearmind physician reviews the patient's medical history, medications, previous treatments, goals, potential contraindications, and relevant safety considerations.
Is there a separate fee for the IV-ketamine consultation?
No. The physician consultation is included at no separate charge as part of IV treatment pricing.
How many psychiatric IV ketamine treatments are recommended?
For eligible patients with psychiatric conditions, the physician may recommend an initial series of six infusions over approximately three weeks. The number of treatments and intervals may change based on response, tolerability, safety, and continued medical appropriateness. Six infusions are not mandatory or appropriate for every patient.
Why are the infusions spaced over approximately three weeks?
Increasing the interval between treatments allows the physician and clinical team to evaluate treatment response, tolerability, and whether continued treatment remains appropriate.
How long does an IV ketamine appointment take?
Most psychiatric IV ketamine appointments are reserved for approximately two hours. This includes preparation, IV placement, the infusion, recovery, and discharge assessment. Chronic-pain infusions may require longer appointments.
How is a patient monitored during an IV infusion?
Continuous clinical monitoring begins with IV placement and continues throughout the infusion period until the IV is removed. The patient also completes a recovery and discharge assessment before leaving.
What happens after the initial infusion series?
The clinical team evaluates response and tolerability throughout the series. Patients are also followed after completing the initial series. Further treatment is based on response, risks, patient preference, and the physician's clinical judgment.
Can I drive home after an infusion?
No. Do not drive, operate machinery, drink alcohol or make important decisions for at least 24 hours after treatment. A responsible adult must take you home. Follow all individualized discharge instructions provided by the clinical team.
What is the therapist-office KAP program?
This program is intended for eligible patients completing ketamine-assisted psychotherapy with a participating licensed therapist. All six planned dosing sessions take place in person at the participating therapist's office - not at Klearmind.
What is included in the $325 KAP medical-program fee?
The program includes: medical evaluation with a Klearmind physician; individualized medical treatment planning; a patient-specific prescription when medically appropriate; compounded oral ketamine for six planned sessions; Klearmind Journal; secure-text clinical support during published support hours.
Is the therapist's fee included in the $325?
No. Therapy services are not included in the Klearmind medical-program fee. The participating therapist schedules and bills separately for psychotherapy services.
Does payment guarantee that a prescription will be issued?
No. Treatment and prescription issuance depend on the physician's evaluation and determination of medical appropriateness.
Where does the medication come from?
Klearmind prescribes but does not compound or dispense the medication. An appropriately licensed compounding pharmacy prepares and dispenses the patient-specific prescription and sends it to the patient's verified California address.
Can I drive after an oral KAP session?
No. Do not drive, operate machinery, drink alcohol or make important decisions for at least 24 hours after treatment. A responsible adult must take you home.
Who may be considered for the at-home program?
The program is intended for eligible California adults approved by a Klearmind physician following an individualized medical evaluation. Not every patient is an appropriate candidate for at-home treatment.
How is the initial evaluation completed?
The evaluation may be completed in person or through secure video. For a video consultation, the patient must securely provide and verify a valid government-issued photo ID before the consultation begins.
Is a sober responsible adult required?
Yes. A sober, responsible adult must remain with the patient during the session and for the required post-treatment observation period. The support person must be able to assist the patient and obtain emergency help if necessary.
Can I complete an at-home session alone?
No. A patient may not complete an at-home oral ketamine session without the required sober, responsible adult present.
Do I need to fast before an oral ketamine session?
Patients must follow the individualized eating, drinking, and medication instructions provided by the clinical team. Do not change medications or fasting instructions without consulting the treating clinician.
What does the $150 oral ketamine follow-up include?
The $150 follow-up program fee includes physician follow-up and, when medically appropriate, compounded oral ketamine for up to four planned sessions. Continued treatment and prescription renewal are not guaranteed.
How often is physician reevaluation required?
Patients continuing treatment complete a physician reevaluation every three months. The physician reevaluation fee is $99. Additional evaluation may be required sooner when clinically indicated.
Does "follow-up" mean my prescription will automatically be renewed?
No. The physician reviews treatment response, adverse effects, current medications, safety considerations, and whether continued treatment remains medically appropriate.
Can I drive after an at-home session?
No. Do not drive, operate machinery, drink alcohol or make important decisions for at least 24 hours after treatment.
What side effects can ketamine cause?
Potential effects may include:
- sedation or drowsiness
- dizziness or impaired coordination
- nausea or vomiting
- temporary increases in blood pressure or heart rate
- changes in perception
- dissociation
- anxiety, confusion, or agitation
- impaired judgment and reaction time
- respiratory complications
- urinary or bladder complications with repeated exposure
- misuse or dependence.
Other risks may apply based on medical history, medications, route of administration, dose, and treatment frequency.
Is ketamine treatment safe for everyone?
No. Ketamine is not appropriate for every patient. The physician reviews medical and psychiatric history, current medications, contraindications, substance-use risks, and other relevant factors before recommending treatment.
Are treatment results guaranteed?
No. Individual response, degree of improvement, and duration of benefit vary. No particular outcome can be guaranteed.
What should I do during an emergency?
Klearmind does not provide emergency or around-the-clock on-call services.
- Call 911 for a medical emergency.
- Call or text 988 during a psychiatric crisis.
- Go to the nearest emergency department when immediate evaluation is needed.
When is secure-text clinical support available?
Secure-text clinical support is available from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
Secure text is not an emergency service, and Klearmind does not provide 24-hour on-call support.
Does everyone receive the same wellness infusion?
No. Every patient receives a physician evaluation. Eligibility, ingredients, dose, infusion rate, monitoring, and appointment duration are determined individually.
Are wellness infusions guaranteed to improve energy, immunity, mood, cognition, or appearance?
No. Individual experiences vary, and no particular wellness, cosmetic, or clinical outcome is guaranteed. Wellness infusions are not represented as treatments for psychiatric disorders, cognitive disease, infection, immune disease, gastrointestinal disease, or chronic inflammatory conditions.
Are Zofran and Toradol included in every infusion?
No. Zofran and Toradol are prescription medications and are provided only when medically indicated and appropriately ordered.
How long does a wellness infusion take?
Duration varies according to the formulation, dose, infusion rate, medical needs, and patient tolerance. Some hydration and nutrient infusions may take approximately 60 minutes. NAD+, iron, methylene blue, and high-dose vitamin C may require different appointment times.
Are laboratory tests required?
Some treatments require laboratory testing. A documented G6PD result is required before receiving high-dose vitamin C at 25 grams or above. Iron infusion requires appropriate physician evaluation and laboratory review. Other testing may be required based on medical history and the requested treatment.
Does Klearmind provide mobile IV services?
Yes. Selected hydration and nutrient infusions may be provided to eligible patients within 10 miles of the Klearmind clinic. An additional $75 mobile-service fee applies.
Is every infusion available through the mobile service?
No. Mobile eligibility depends on physician evaluation, the selected infusion, the treatment environment, staffing, and the ability to provide appropriate monitoring.
The following are clinic-only:
- iron infusion
- methylene blue infusion
- high-dose vitamin C infusion.
Other treatments may also be restricted to the clinic based on physician judgment or clinical protocol.
Are IV wellness services a substitute for emergency care?
No. Wellness infusions are not emergency care. Call 911 for chest pain, difficulty breathing, altered consciousness, stroke symptoms, severe dehydration, or another possible emergency.
Are wellness services HSA- or FSA-eligible?
Some services may be eligible, depending on the patient's plan, medical circumstances, and plan-administrator requirements. Klearmind does not guarantee HSA or FSA eligibility or reimbursement. Patients should confirm directly with their plan administrator.
Is a booking payment the complete treatment price?
Not necessarily. Any booking payment should be clearly identified as either a treatment charge or an appointment deposit. When a deposit is collected, the booking page will state whether it is refundable and whether it is applied to the final charge.
What is the IV-infusion cancellation policy?
IV-infusion appointments must be canceled or rescheduled at least 24 hours before the scheduled appointment time. A timely canceled appointment deposit is refundable or may be transferred to another appointment.
What happens if I arrive late?
Patients arriving more than 15 minutes late may need to be rescheduled when there is insufficient time to complete treatment safely. Any applicable late-cancellation or rescheduling terms are governed by the posted cancellation policy.
Where can I find current prices?
Current program prices are listed on the Klearmind Pricing page. Treatment recommendations and total costs may vary depending on the prescribed program, dose, laboratory requirements, pharmacy charges, follow-up care, and other individualized factors.
Is Klearmind a VA Community Care provider?
Yes. Klearmind is an approved VA Community Care provider.
Does VA Community Care automatically cover treatment?
No. Services are covered only when Klearmind receives an approved VA referral or authorization.
Coverage is limited to the services, number of visits, and authorization period identified in the approved referral.
Veterans should confirm authorization details with their VA care team before beginning treatment.
Does Klearmind bill insurance?
No. Klearmind does not bill or submit claims to commercial health-insurance companies. Services are self-pay, except for services specifically authorized through an approved VA Community Care referral. Klearmind can provide a superbill upon request for patients who wish to submit it to their insurance plan for possible out-of-network reimbursement. A superbill is not a guarantee of coverage or payment. Patients are responsible for confirming their benefits and submitting the claim directly to their insurance plan.
How does Klearmind protect patient information?
Klearmind maintains privacy and security practices intended to protect patient information and provides patients with a Notice of Privacy Practices. Medical questions and protected health information should be communicated through approved secure channels rather than ordinary email or public website forms.
